NSK self-aligning ball bearings are recommended when the alignment of shaft and housing is problematic and the shaft can bend. The outer race contains a hollow spherical runway, the centre of curvature of which corresponds to that of the rolling bearing. They are therefore self-aligning and thus suitable for the compensation of angular errors. Self-aligning ball bearing are available with cages made of steel sheet and polyamide. Due to the low contact angle, the axial bearing force is low. The permissible dynamic offset for normal loads is about 0.7 to 0.12 radiant (4 to 7 degrees).
